Twinning TrePsy Winter School 2026
On 12–13 February 2026, the Maj Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków hosted the Twinning TrePsy Winter School 2026, the final training event of the project “Towards New Treatments of Psychiatric Disorders – A Systems-Oriented Approach” (TrePsy). The project is coordinated by the Maj Institute of Pharmacology PAS and funded under the Horizon Europe Programme (Grant Agreement No. 101079256).
The programme focused on “Therapeutic Potential of Cannabidiol in Neuropsychopharmacology” as well as the growing role of artificial intelligence in biomedical research and systems neuropsychopharmacology.
The Winter School was organized within the framework of collaboration between four leading European brain research centres: the Maj Institute of Pharmacology PAS, Miguel Hernández University (Spain), Zentralinstitut für Seelische Gesundheit (Germany), and Neurocentre Magendie (France).
The event brought together 75 researchers, PhD candidates, and experts representing various fields of biomedical sciences. The meeting provided an important platform for scientific exchange, the presentation of recent research findings, and the strengthening of international collaboration in neuroscience, pharmacology, and data science.
The programme addressed two key directions of contemporary research.
The first day focused on the neurobiological mechanisms of cannabidiol (CBD) and its potential therapeutic applications in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. Lectures were delivered by researchers from Miguel Hernández University – Prof. Jorge Manzanares Robles, Prof. María Salud García-Gutiérrez, Prof. Francisco Navarrete Rueda, and Prof. Daniela Navarro – presenting recent preclinical and translational research on the use of CBD in anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases.
The second day was dedicated to the applications of artificial intelligence in scientific research, particularly in biomedical data analysis, hypothesis generation, and scientific publishing. Lectures by Dr. Michał Marczyk, Dr. Łukasz Wróbel, Prof. Roman Z. Morawski, Sylwia Grubarek, and Dr. Bohdan Widła addressed both the practical potential of AI tools and the ethical and legal challenges related to their use, including intellectual property considerations and the responsible use of generative AI in research.
For our community, however, the photo report from the Winter School represents more than a record of an inspiring scientific meeting.
It is also a moment to remember Prof. Jorge Manzanares Robles, who passed away on 3 March 2026. Professor Manzanares was an outstanding scientist, a valued collaborator in the TrePsy project, and a friend of our academic community. His presence at the Winter School, his lecture, and the many conversations with participants remain an important and inspiring memory for all of us.
We will remember the shared discussions, meetings, and the remarkable energy, kindness, and passion for science that he brought to our international research community.
