Maj Institute of Pharmacology Polish Academy of Sciences (further called the Institute or IP PAS) announces a competition for the position of an assistant at the Department of Physiology. We are looking for an assistant interested in conducting electrophysiological, histological and behavioural research in transgenic model animals at the Department of Physiology IP PAS.

Department Head: Professor Krzysztof Tokarski, PhD

A candidate for the position of an assistant should meet the following criteria:

  1. PhD in biological, medical or related sciences;
  2. Knowledge in the field of neurobiology;
  3. Experience with behavioural, cellular, biochemical or imaging techniques, confirmed in the form of scientific publications in the field of neurobiology;
  4. Outstanding scientific activity: international publications (at least 3), active participation in scientific conferences and scientific projects;
  5. Multi-year experience in working with animals, including GMO – animal care, upkeep, control and breeding of transgenic animals, genotyping, phenotyping (behavioural testing). Completed and certified PolLASA training (or an equivalent document) for those planning and performing procedures and experiments with the use of laboratory animals as well as animal care and killing animals used in procedures in accordance with the Act on the protection of animals used for scientific and educational purposes (as in Journal of Laws of 2023, item 465);
  6. Ability to both work in a team and independently;
  7. Fluent written and spoken English;
  8. Impeccable ethical attitude.

Additional advantage would be:

  1. Interest in research areas such as: serotonin, neuronal plasticity, stress and pathogenesis of central nervous system disorders;
  2. Proficiency in Polish

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Carrying out the behavioural procedures, e.g. assessment of antidepressant-like and anxiolytic-like behaviours;
  2. Care and maintenance of transgenic animals, planning and managing studies with their use, genotyping;
  3. Viral vector injections;
  4. Conducting experiments using biochemical and molecular assays, microscopic imaging;
  5. Analysis of research results, including statistical analysis;
  6. Data processing and preparation of manuscripts for publication and presentation of the obtained results during scientific conferences;
  7. Strict adherence to the code of ethics of Polish Academy of Sciences employee;
  8. Adherence to rules and regulations in force at the IP PAS.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full-time employment contract with task-oriented work time.

  6. A copy of the certificate of completion of training in conducting research with the use of laboratory animals;

  8. Certificate of English language proficiency, if available;
  9. Declaration of the primary workplace and affiliation of research and publication in accordance with Appendix 3 to the Form;
  10. Information on the processing of personal data in accordance with Appendix 4 to the Form;
  11. A declaration of impeccable ethical attitude in accordance with Appendix 5 to the Form.
